Agency (New Delhi): In a pointed rebuttal at a public rally in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge strongly refuted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claims that the Congress intends to seize personal wealth and distribute it to Muslims. Kharge emphasized that such actions are not reflective of the party’s principles or historical conduct, even under challenging circumstances in the past.
“The allegations that Congress would take personal assets, including ‘Mangalsutra’, and give them away are baseless. Not even during the era of the Nizams did such a thing happen, and it will not occur under a democratic regime,” Kharge asserted. He reminded the audience of the sacrifices made by Congress leaders such as Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi for the nation’s welfare, criticizing the BJP for continuing to propagate what he described as unfounded fears.
Prime Minister Modi had earlier alleged at a rally on April 21 that a Congress-led government would conduct a wealth survey with the aim of confiscating the assets of citizens, specifically targeting the ‘Mangalsutra’, a symbol of marital commitment among Indian women. Modi argued that Congress policies would favor Muslims and even illegal immigrants, putting personal savings at risk.
In defense, Kharge highlighted Congress’s historical stance on equality and its opposition to any form of asset seizure from the public. “The Congress party has always stood for the protection of individual rights and will counter any attempts to undermine these principles,” he stated.
The Congress party has also accused PM Modi and the BJP of using religion and religious symbols to influence voters emotionally, claiming that such tactics are being employed deliberately in their campaign strategies.
