Agency (New Delhi): On Thursday, Mallikarjun Kharge, the President of the Congress Party, addressed a pointed letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, critiquing his campaign methods and urging him to base his electoral appeal on the achievements of his government rather than engaging in divisive speech.
In his correspondence, Kharge expressed concern over the tone of a recent letter Modi wrote to NDA candidates, which he felt demonstrated desperation and an inappropriate use of language unbefitting the Prime Minister’s office. Kharge accused Modi of perpetuating falsehoods, stating, “Repeating a lie a thousand times will not make it the truth.”
Kharge refuted Modi’s assertion that the Congress plans to reallocate reservation benefits from SC, ST, and OBC groups to its own voter base, clarifying that the Congress’s manifesto aims to serve all Indians inclusively.
He also addressed accusations of Congress appeasing Muslims, countering with claims of the BJP’s leniency towards China, particularly in the context of the 2020 Galwan clash where Modi’s statements were perceived as downplaying Chinese incursions.
Further, Kharge criticized the financial ethics of the BJP, alleging that the party had illicitly gained substantial amounts through electoral bonds and called for the restitution of funds misappropriated from underprivileged communities.
Concluding his letter, Kharge lamented the BJP’s disinterest in addressing key issues like inequality, unemployment, and women’s safety, challenging Modi to a debate on these topics. He warned that Modi’s legacy might be marred by his reliance on divisive and dishonest rhetoric.
