Agency (New Delhi): Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former AICC chief Rahul Gandhi held a crucial meeting on Sunday with the party’s Lok Sabha candidates, legislative party leaders, and state unit chiefs via video conference. The leaders urged them to stay alert and implement measures to prevent any attempts of rigging on the poll counting day, scheduled for June 4.
Kharge, Gandhi, along with party general secretaries Jairam Ramesh and K C Venugopal, reviewed preparations for the counting day during the meeting. This gathering occurred a day after exit polls predicted a significant victory for the BJP-led NDA, suggesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi would retain power for a third consecutive term.
Ramesh dismissed the exit polls as “completely bogus” and claimed they were “orchestrated and masterminded” by those whose exit is inevitable on June 4. He described the polls as part of psychological tactics by the outgoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to influence the results.
In response to the exit poll predictions, leaders from several INDIA bloc parties met on Saturday to assess their preparations for the vote counting. They expressed confidence in securing more than 295 seats, sufficient to form the next government.
After the meeting, Kharge addressed the media, stating that the alliance leaders discussed various issues, including necessary precautions for the counting day. He instructed party workers to remain in the counting halls until all formalities were completed to ensure transparency and fairness in the process.
