Agency (Haryana): Abhay Chautala, a leader of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) in Haryana, has squarely blamed the state’s BJP government, led by Manohar Lal Khattar, for the murder of INLD state president Nafe Singh Rathee. Chautala’s condemnation follows the fatal shooting of Rathee by unknown assailants near a railway crossing in Bahadurgarh, Jhajjar district.
Chautala criticised the state government for not providing adequate security to Rathee, despite being warned of potential threats to his life. He recounted that Rathee had previously communicated his concerns to senior police officials, the Superintendent of Police (SP), the Chief Minister (CM), and the Director General (DG), requesting an investigation and security measures. Chautala lamented that despite these requests, no protective action was taken.
In a statement to ANI, Chautala demanded a thorough investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the murder. He expressed frustration over the government’s perceived inaction and questioned the allocation of security resources, noting that individuals with several accusations against them received security while those genuinely at risk did not.
The incident, which resulted in the death of Rathee and a party worker, was confirmed by Jhajjar SP Arpit Jain, who assured that the Criminal Investigation Agency (CIA) and Special Task Force (STF) teams were actively pursuing the case. Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij also acknowledged the situation, instructing officials to take immediate action and confirming the involvement of the STF in the investigation.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Haryana President Sushil Gupta commented on the deteriorating law and order situation in Haryana, highlighting the vulnerability of citizens, including businessmen and politicians, to violent crimes.
Dr. Manish Sharma from Brahma Shakti Sanjeevani Hospital reported that four individuals were brought to the hospital with gunshot wounds following the incident. Among them, Rathee and another individual, Jaikishan, were declared dead on arrival.
The murder also drew reactions from former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who paid tribute to Rathee and voiced concerns over the increasing threats and ransom demands faced by various MLAs in the state. Hooda’s remarks pointed to a growing trend of violence targeting political figures in Haryana.
The case continues to unfold, with ongoing investigations and increasing political tensions over the handling of law and order in the state.
