Agency(Rajasthan): Ashok Gehlot, the former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, underscored the significance of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections as a pivotal moment for the nation, framing it as a battle for the country’s democratic future and the preservation of the Constitution. During a public gathering to support Congress candidate Rahul Kaswan’s nomination in Churu, Gehlot articulated the elections as a monumental challenge for India, emphasizing their importance for the sustainability of democracy and constitutional integrity.
Gehlot, without pinpointing specific individuals, leveled accusations against the incumbent BJP leadership, condemning their alleged involvement in manipulating legislative assemblies through illicit means, referring to them as internal adversaries of the state. He accused these figures of jeopardizing democracy and exploiting the nation.
In a related development, Kaswan, a previously elected MP from the BJP, shifted allegiances to the Congress following the denial of a party ticket, with the Congress subsequently endorsing his candidacy for the Churu constituency.
Adding to the critique of the ruling party, Congress leader Sachin Pilot lambasted the Central government for what he perceives as the misuse of constitutional entities, signaling a broader dissatisfaction with the administration’s governance. Pilot’s remarks came during the nomination event for Congress candidate Murari Lal Meena in Dausa, where he reflected on the Rajasthan populace’s desire for political renewal.
Highlighting the BJP’s consecutive victories across all 25 seats in Rajasthan in past elections, Pilot suggested a growing consensus among voters for change in the upcoming polls. He accused the BJP of engaging in power politics marked by hubris and an effort to mute opposition voices, alleging the exploitation of investigative agencies, institutional degradation, and diminished transparency under their governance.
Pilot projected the primary electoral contest in Rajasthan as a showdown between the BJP and Congress, expressing confidence in the victory of the INDIA bloc and Congress representatives in the state, thereby framing the election as a referendum on democratic values and governance ethics.
