Agency(New Delhi): In a turn of events that underscores internal strife within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), senior BJP figure and former Deputy Chief Minister, K S Eshwarappa, has publicly accused B S Yediyurappa, ex-Chief Minister and BJP Parliamentary Board member, of reneging on promises related to his son’s political aspirations. The dispute centers around the denial of a BJP ticket to Eshwarappa’s son, K E Kantesh, for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in the Haveri constituency.
Eshwarappa, aged 75, charged Yediyurappa with duplicitously assuring a party ticket and campaign support for his son, only to ultimately exclude him from the candidate roster. This accusation comes in the wake of the BJP’s decision to nominate former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai for the contested Haveri seat, a move that Eshwarappa interprets as Yediyurappa’s maneuver to favor Bommai and Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje over his progeny.
In the aftermath of this development, Eshwarappa disclosed that a groundswell of support from his followers and well-wishers has emerged, encouraging him to consider an independent run for the Shivamogga constituency. He has scheduled a meeting with his supporters to deliberate on this significant decision.
As Eshwarappa contemplates his political future, his deep-rooted affiliation with the BJP, spanning four decades, and his avowed allegiance to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscore the complexities of navigating party politics and personal ambitions. This episode not only highlights the intricate dynamics within party hierarchies but also raises questions about loyalty, meritocracy, and the allocation of electoral tickets within one of India’s leading political parties.
