New Delhi (Agency): Akola, Maharashtra: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated on Sunday that no Muslim in India can claim to be a descendant of Aurangzeb, and nationalist Muslims in the country do not consider the Mughal emperor as their ruler. Fadnavis emphasized that the only recognized king is Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who is respected by Muslims as well.
“Our king is only Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. We cannot have another king. Muslims in India are not descendants of Aurangzeb. Aurangzeb and his clan came from outside,” Fadnavis said during a public rally in Akola, Maharashtra.
The rally, organized by the BJP, was held to commemorate the nine years of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre.
Earlier this month, tensions arose in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, when some individuals allegedly posted objectionable content on social media referencing Aurangzeb and Tipu Sultan. Devendra Fadnavis condemned the supporters of the former Mughal ruler, stating, “Suddenly, in some districts of Maharashtra, sons of Aurangzeb have emerged. They consider themselves as Aurangzeb’s heirs and display his posters. This has caused tensions. We need to ask, where did these sons of Aurangzeb come from? Who is behind this? We will investigate and find out.”
