Agency (Karnataka): In a recent press conference in Shivamogga, Karnataka, former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy addressed the scandal surrounding the alleged obscene video of Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna. Amidst heated discussions, Kumaraswamy questioned the timing of the video’s release and denied any personal or family involvement in the matter, asserting that the law should determine the outcome.
Kumaraswamy emphasized that the controversy would not impact the upcoming Lok Sabha election results in Hassan, where Revanna, the grandson of HD Deve Gowda, is competing. He critiqued the opposition for dragging family names into the scandal, insisting that the issue be viewed as an isolated incident rather than a family or party-wide problem.
Responding to inquiries about Revanna’s alleged flight from the country, Kumaraswamy remarked, “Will he ask me and go every day? Let the government decide on actions to bring him back. We didn’t know anything about this earlier; they live separately.”
The crisis within the Janata Dal (Secular) deepens as party MLAs Sharana Gowda Kandakur and Samruddhi Manjunath advocate for Revanna’s expulsion to salvage the party’s reputation. Kandakur’s formal request to party president HD Deve Gowda underscores the internal pressure, while Manjunath describes the ongoing issue as an embarrassment that hinders his ability to respond to media queries effectively.
The Karnataka government has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by IPS officer Vijay Kumar Singh to thoroughly investigate the accusations against Revanna. This team, including prominent officials such as DG CID Suman D Pennekar and IPS officer Seema Latkar, has commenced their investigative efforts.
