Agency(Shimla): Pratibha Singh, the president of the Himachal Pradesh Congress, has raised questions about Bollywood actress and BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut’s contributions during the devastating floods in Himachal Pradesh last year. Singh challenged Ranaut to demonstrate her commitment to the region, suggesting that her actions did not align with her public persona as “Himachal’s daughter.”
During a media interaction, Singh pointed out that despite Ranaut’s financial capability, there appeared to be no significant contribution from her side, either through direct financial support or by visiting the affected families to offer sympathy and support.
Additionally, Singh addressed recent derogatory remarks made against Ranaut, condemning such comments and calling for respect towards Ranaut as a woman and political candidate. She emphasized the importance of maintaining dignity in political discourse and focusing on substantive issues rather than personal attacks.
The discussion comes in the context of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with Ranaut running for a seat in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh—a state traditionally important in national elections. The BJP currently holds all four Lok Sabha seats in the state, a stronghold they aim to maintain against significant efforts by the Congress to regain influence. The elections and concurrent by-polls are scheduled for June 1.
