New Delhi (Agency): In a recent statement, Ajay Rai, the Uttar Pradesh Congress president, made bold predictions about the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He claimed that Smriti Irani, the current Member of Parliament from Amethi, would lose her deposit in the next year’s elections and that Rahul Gandhi would become the Prime Minister of India.
Rai’s statement comes in the wake of Smriti Irani’s surprising victory over Rahul Gandhi in Amethi during the 2019 general elections. Irani’s victory marked a significant upset in the Gandhi family stronghold, and Rai seems confident that history will repeat itself.
“In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the Congress will register a rousing performance across the country. You will see that Rahul Gandhi will become the Prime Minister,” Rai declared during a visit to Raebareli for Janmashtami festivities.
Rai also took the opportunity to criticize the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), suggesting they should focus on their own internal matters. He referred to a recent incident where a 30-year-old man was murdered at the home of Union minister Kaushal Kishore’s son Vikas Kishore in Lucknow.
“The BJP should forget about winning all 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh, forget (about) Amethi and Raebareli. They have always stood with the Gandhi family and will always stand with the Gandhi family,” Rai asserted.
He further emphasized his strong connections with the people of Raebareli, the parliamentary constituency represented by Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. Rai stated, “Our leader Sonia Gandhi is the MP from here. It is my good fortune that I have come to her area and got a chance to meet her strong soldiers. We are discussing future plans of the party.”
Rai also commented on the ongoing debate over India and Bharat, referring to the opposition alliance as “INDIA,” which seems to have upset some political quarters.
