Agency(New Delhi): Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh utilized the “washing machine” analogy to critique leaders departing the Congress for the BJP, amid allegations that such figures are shielded from pending corruption cases upon joining the ruling party. This metaphor, frequently employed by the opposition INDIA bloc, implies that individuals facing legal scrutiny emerge unblemished after aligning with the BJP.
Ramesh, in a press conference, underscored the exodus of several Congress leaders, including Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, to the BJP, labeling them as beneficiaries of this metaphorical ‘washing machine’. The discussion surfaced in the context of the BJP’s recent endorsement of Jyotiraditya Scindia, a notable Congress defector in 2020, for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections from Guna.
During the last phase of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Rahul Gandhi focused on delivering justice through five guarantees aimed at farmers, youth, women, and laborers. Among these assurances were legal backing for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and the initiation of a socio-economic and caste census, which the Congress argues has been delayed and obscured by the current government.
At a rally in Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi highlighted the concept of “nyay” (justice) as a remedy to the nation’s escalating hatred, driven by economic, social, and systemic disparities. The BJP, however, has refuted these accusations.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which recently progressed into Madhya Pradesh from Rajasthan, represents a concerted effort by the Congress to address and rally against injustices and inequalities, amid criticisms of its members joining the BJP for purported legal and political sanctuaries.
