Agency(New Delhi): Congress leaders have launched a fierce attack on the BJP’s recently released Lok Sabha election manifesto, labeling it as a “jumla patra” or document of empty promises. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and other party leaders highlighted what they perceive as a history of unmet promises by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly regarding jobs, farmers’ income, and inflation.
During a series of public statements, Kharge called Modi’s guarantees “a warranty of jumlas,” accusing him of not addressing pressing issues faced by the nation, such as skyrocketing food prices and high unemployment rates. Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi emphasized the absence of “inflation and unemployment” in the BJP’s manifesto, contrasting it with Congress’s proposal to fill 30 lakh job vacancies and provide stable employment to educated youth.
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera criticized the BJP’s unfulfilled promises from the 2014 manifesto, such as the pledge to bring back black money and enhance law and order in the northeast, particularly in light of ongoing violence in Manipur. He also questioned the feasibility of the BJP’s past promises of developing 100 new smart cities, pointing out that no substantial progress has been made, while neighboring China has advanced its infrastructure along the border.
The Congress party also accused Modi of shifting focus to the distant future, specifically the year 2047, to divert attention from current failures. Supriya Shrinate, another Congress spokesperson, claimed the BJP’s manifesto lacks substantive content and failed to involve public consultation. She highlighted discrepancies in the BJP’s claims of poverty reduction and critiqued Modi’s foreign policy as isolating India from its trade partners and neighbors.
As the Lok Sabha elections approach, the Congress party is positioning itself as a credible alternative to the BJP, promising to address the core issues of jobs, farmer distress, and regional stability that they claim have been neglected by the current administration.
