New Delhi (Agency): Sukanta Majumdar, President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal, has made serious allegations against the state’s ruling government. Speaking to ANI, Majumdar claimed that suspected agents of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) are not only living in West Bengal but are also using the state as a base for activities against India.
“We have a Pakistan-loving government here in West Bengal. This is why people working against the country’s interests, especially ISI agents, are not only finding a safe refuge but are also using Bengal as a base for their nefarious activities,” said Majumdar.
The BJP leader’s comments follow reports that a 36-year-old man, suspected to be working as a spy for Pakistan, was arrested in Kolkata. Reports indicate that several sensitive documents were found in his possession. Majumdar alleges that such individuals are “receiving support from the chief minister and her government.” However, there has been no immediate response from the ruling Trinamool Congress regarding these claims.
Earlier this year, a significant political controversy erupted in West Bengal after an image of a Class 10 test paper instructed students to mark ‘Azad Kashmir’ on India’s map. This term is used by Pakistan to refer to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Union Minister of State for Education, Subhas Sarkar, labeled the question setter as “inspiring terrorism” and called for an immediate ban on the sale of the book. In response, Riju Dutta, the TMC’s national spokesperson, termed the test paper as an “individual mistake” and stated that the government took strict action.
Majumdar and other BJP leaders, who shared the image of the test paper on social media, accused the Mamata Banerjee government of attempting to “create an anti-India mentality” among students.
The allegations by the BJP’s Bengal chief have stirred the political waters in the state, where political tensions are already running high. Public opinion is likely to be strongly divided over Majumdar’s comments, as they involve serious accusations of national security and loyalty.
It remains to be seen how the Mamata Banerjee government will react to these allegations. The lack of an immediate response has only fueled speculation and added to the tension. Majumdar’s claims have serious implications, not just for the political landscape in West Bengal, but also for national security.
