Bengaluru (Aryavarth): In a recent development, top sources within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have dismissed circulating rumors suggesting a large-scale shuffle between ministerial and organisational roles within the party.
Speculation regarding this potential shift has been brewing in political circles, particularly in the wake of the recent changes to four state presidents in a single day. The reshuffled states include Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Jharkhand, and Punjab, and some observers had suggested that this could be the precursor to an extensive cabinet restructuring.
The speculations gained traction when a number of Union ministers were spotted at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, meeting with the national president, J.P. Nadda. Amidst conjectures that these ministers might be transitioning into organisational roles, high-ranking BJP sources spoke with News18 to quash these rumors.
These sources affirmed that the visiting cabinet ministers had met with Nadda for discussions centered on essential party work. Specifically, these Union ministers have been entrusted with the responsibility of focusing on underperforming Lok Sabha seats, and their meeting with Nadda was to provide feedback in this regard.
Among the ministers sighted at the party office were Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, Science and Technology Minister Kiren Rijiju, Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and Law Minister Arjunram Meghwal.
As the Lok Sabha elections approach, the party’s top leadership is keen to understand the groundwork and the impact of these ministerial visits thus far, a source reported.
In early 2023, the BJP embarked on its second leg of Lok Sabha Pravas, increasing its attention from 144 to 160 weak Lok Sabha seats, including additional ones in Bengal and Bihar. Top leadership figures, including Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, are set to travel to at least 80 of these seats each, for public programs and meetings.
With almost 40 ministers tasked with the responsibility for four Lok Sabha seats each, the extensive Lok Sabha Pravas initiative is being orchestrated by BJP general secretaries Sunil Bansal and Vinod Tawde, alongside a dedicated team of leaders.
