New Delhi (Agency): Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, made a strong accusation against the opposition BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) on Thursday. Speaking at the state assembly, Banerjee stated that the BJP is trying to stir up troubles by causing divisions among the people. She claims that the party’s goal is to present the state in a negative light ahead of next year’s general elections.
Banerjee explained that she has information about a recent meeting that took place in New Delhi involving senior leaders of the BJP’s state unit. She believes that during this meeting, plans were made to cause disturbances and create divisions in West Bengal.
Moreover, she claims that the BJP has also decided to fund any party that could potentially divide the votes of the Trinamool Congress, her own political party.
Banerjee said, “I have information regarding the BJP meeting in the national capital. I will not name those present in it. They are planning to divide society on the basis of religion and caste. They are planning to highlight alleged crimes against women and weaker sections including SCs, STs and Rajbangshis so that the state can be shown in bad light.”
The assembly held discussions based on a resolution brought by the opposition BJP about the violence in the panchayat elections and the state’s law and order situation.
Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in the assembly, brought the motion forward, and Speaker Biman Banerjee allowed it. However, when the Chief Minister began speaking on the motion and mentioned power cuts at a counting booth during the 2021 assembly elections, the BJP members expressed their displeasure by waving black cloths and walking out of the assembly. Notably, Banerjee had lost to Adhikari in the Nandigram seat during those elections.
