Agency(Karnataka): In light of the recently publicized Lok Sabha election timetable, Karnataka’s BJP leader BY Vijayendra delivered a pointed critique of the Congress, highlighting a statewide preference for the BJP. He noted the Congress party’s difficulties in securing candidates for the Lok Sabha constituencies, despite holding power in the state. According to Vijayendra, there’s a noticeable effort to persuade ministers to enter the race, yet the prevailing sentiment across Karnataka leans towards BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Karnataka, which has a total of 28 seats in the Lok Sabha, saw the BJP secure 25 of those with a 51.7% share of the vote in the 2019 elections. The Congress managed to win a single seat, obtaining a 32.1% vote share, while the JD(S) and an Independent each captured one seat.
The schedule for the Karnataka Lok Sabha elections is split, with 14 seats each being contested on April 26 and May 4. This announcement came in conjunction with the Model Code of Conduct’s activation following the Election Commission of India’s release of the dates for the Lok Sabha and four state assembly elections. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar urged all political parties and leaders to adhere strictly to the poll code.
The national elections for 543 Lok Sabha seats are set to unfold in seven phases starting April 19, culminating in a count on June 4. Concurrent elections for the state legislatures of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim will occur within the same timeframe. The electoral process will commence on April 19, covering a total of 102 constituencies in its first phase, with subsequent phases spanning until June 1, when the final phase of voting will be held across 57 constituencies.
