New Delhi (Agency): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made strong allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). On Friday, he claimed that BJP, in its “desire for power,” is disregarding “women’s respect” and the dignity of the nation.
Gandhi expressed these thoughts in a post on Facebook. Along with his words, he posted a video that was made from various news reports about incidents where women were sexually assaulted. He used this video to criticize the central government.
The video talked about several incidents. It mentioned an event where two women were undressed and shown off to the public by a crowd in Manipur. It brought up the claims that women wrestlers were sexually harassed by the outgoing head of the Wrestling Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. It also discussed the alleged murder of a woman in Uttarakhand. A BJP leader’s son was suspected of this crime. Lastly, it mentioned the release of the people who were guilty in the Bilkis Bano gangrape case.
“A country that does not respect its women can never make progress. In its desire for power, the BJP is playing with both the respect of women and the dignity of the country,” said Rahul Gandhi in his post, written in Hindi.
Gandhi’s comments come at a time when the opposition is continuously criticizing the government. Their main point of attack is the government’s response to the situation in Manipur, which has recently experienced violent episodes. In Manipur, two women were undressed and shown off to the public by a crowd. This event took place on May 4. However, the video of this incident only appeared in the public eye earlier this month. This event and the video have caused anger throughout the nation. It has also become a key point of political dispute between BJP and the opposition group called INDIA.
