Agency(New Delhi): In a recent declaration, Trinamool Congress MP Sagarika Ghose fiercely criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party, labeling it as “anti-Bengal and anti-Bengali.” She described the BJP as a party that caters to “outsiders and zamindars,” firmly stating that the TMC would obstruct any attempts by the BJP to infringe upon Bengal’s electoral integrity. Ghose articulated her accusations in a video she released on Sunday, where she outlined her concerns about the central government’s neglect of Bengal, highlighting the cessation of funds and train services to the state, and the exclusive deployment of central forces there, unlike in Gujarat or Uttar Pradesh.
In her video message, Ghose raised serious questions regarding the recent resignation of Election Commissioner Arun Goel, emphasizing the negative implications it could have on the perception of democracy in India. She expressed a steadfast determination to prevent the BJP from undermining Bengal’s autonomy and the rights of its residents. “The Trinamool Congress will stand against any efforts to diminish the interests of Bengal’s people, now and always,” she asserted.
The context of Ghose’s remarks is set against the backdrop of Election Commissioner Arun Goel’s unexpected resignation just before the anticipated announcement of the Lok Sabha election dates, with his departure being officially confirmed by the President following the stipulations of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Act, 2023. Arun Goel, who had been serving as the Election Commissioner since November 21, 2022, had a distinguished career across various governmental roles, including significant positions within the Ministry of Culture, Delhi Development Authority, and the Ministry of Finance.
