Agency (New Delhi): Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Monday described Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as the “biggest liar in the country” and accused him of deceiving the people of Delhi and Punjab. Thakur, seeking a fifth term in the Lok Sabha from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, urged voters to reject the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
“Today, the entire country has seen the true face of Arvind Kejriwal. They are contesting only 22 seats and deceiving the nation with false promises. Last time, they made big promises but did not fulfill a single one. They have embarrassed the people of Delhi,” Thakur stated. He alleged that many Delhi government ministers are in jail on serious corruption charges, highlighting the instability and lack of development under Kejriwal’s leadership.
Thakur claimed that Kejriwal’s primary goal is to secure power to cover up his misdeeds, but the public is well aware of his tactics and will defeat his party in all seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi. “Kejriwal is the biggest liar in this country. He has deceived the people of Delhi and Punjab with his lies,” Thakur said, adding that Kejriwal’s comments only serve to entertain the public and ultimately benefit the BJP.
Asserting no anti-incumbency against the BJP, Thakur expressed confidence that the party would win the Lok Sabha elections with ease, securing a third term for Narendra Modi as Prime Minister. Kejriwal, arrested in a money laundering case related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam, has been granted interim bail by the Supreme Court until June 1 to campaign. He must surrender and return to jail on June 2.
Thakur also addressed the alleged assault on Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal at Kejriwal’s residence, criticizing the AAP for becoming the “Arvind Assault Party.” He questioned the safety of other women if a prominent party member could be assaulted and suggested internal tensions within the party.
Earlier on Monday, Maliwal went to the Civil Lines police station, alleging that a member of Kejriwal’s personal staff assaulted her at the Chief Minister’s official residence. Police officials stated they have not yet received a formal complaint.
The seven-phase elections conclude on June 1, with vote counting set for June 4.
