New Delhi (Agency): AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj expressed confidence that if the INDIA alliance manages to stick together, it could defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Speaking at a debate held by the Indian School of Democracy, Bharadwaj acknowledged the challenges of maintaining unity within the alliance but emphasized that if they remain united, the BJP’s chances of returning to power would be diminished.
Bharadwaj also predicted that more parties currently aligned with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) might join the INDIA alliance in the near future, bolstering its strength.
In contrast, BJP leader Jaiveer Shergill argued that the constituents of the INDIA alliance are united by their “hatred” for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, even as they hold differing views on various issues. Shergill expressed skepticism about the longevity of the opposition alliance, suggesting that it might not hold up over time.
Responding to Shergill’s remarks, Bharadwaj acknowledged the challenges but reiterated the potential for the alliance to succeed, highlighting that sacrifices and cooperation among all parties would be essential for achieving their goals.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Manoj Jha acknowledged the existence of differences within the opposition alliance while emphasizing their shared agreement on fundamental issues. He critiqued the government’s handling of the proposal for simultaneous elections and supported Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s decision to abstain from the committee examining the matter.
Jha also questioned the feasibility of the “one nation one election” concept, pointing out that changes occurred after 1967 with the emergence of regional parties, resulting in fragmentation. He raised concerns about the government’s intentions behind forming the committee, suggesting that the report may have already been prepared and awaiting signatures.
