Bengaluru: Amid mounting public outrage over Bengaluru’s worsening garbage crisis and alleged multi-crore BBMP corruption scams, citizens are questioning the silence of Karnataka’s principal opposition party, BJP, raising suspicions of a political understanding with the ruling Congress government.
For weeks, social media platforms have been flooded with complaints about uncollected garbage, overflowing drains, and deteriorating civic infrastructure across the city. Simultaneously, media reports have exposed alleged kickbacks and irregularities in BBMP’s waste management tenders, amounting to hundreds of crores of rupees.
Despite these revelations, BJP leaders have not organized large-scale protests or launched strong campaigns against the Siddaramaiah-led government, leaving citizens baffled. Many are openly asking whether a tacit political deal is keeping both parties silent on corruption and civic mismanagement.
“People are suffering daily, the city has become a dumping yard, and yet the opposition is missing in action,” said Ramesh Gowda, a resident of Rajajinagar. “If BJP won’t fight for us, who will?”
Political analysts suggest that both Congress and BJP may be avoiding confrontations due to mutual political interests ahead of upcoming municipal elections. Critics claim this “friendly opposition” is allowing corruption to thrive unchecked, while taxpayers bear the brunt of inefficiency and negligence.
Citizens’ groups are now planning to launch independent protests and approach the Lokayukta, demanding a high-level inquiry into BBMP’s waste management contracts and the alleged political collusion.
