Islamabad: Reports emerging from Islamabad suggest that Pakistan’s air defence capabilities, particularly its HQ-9 missile launcher units, have suffered significant damage. The development follows India’s recent military operation, Operation Sindoor, during which nine terror camps within Pakistani territory were reportedly targeted and destroyed.

According to Pakistan’s Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Indian strike involved 24 separate impacts across six different localities. In response, the Pakistan Army claimed to have downed multiple Indian drones—a claim that remains unverified by independent sources.

Meanwhile, a wave of misinformation appears to be circulating from Pakistan-based sources. Indian authorities, including the Fact Check Unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB), have flagged several fabricated narratives spread by social media accounts affiliated with or sympathetic to the Pakistani state.

One such claim involved an alleged attack on a military base in Amritsar, Punjab, which a Pakistani user claimed caused “numerous casualties”. The accompanying video, however, was identified by PIB Fact Check as a recycled clip from a 2024 wildfire and had no connection to current events. The video was officially labelled “FAKE”, and a warning was issued against sharing unverified content.

In another instance, a widely circulated image purported to show a downed Indian Rafale jet near Bahawalpur. The image was debunked by PIB Fact Check, which clarified it actually depicted a MiG-21 crash from 2021 in Moga, Punjab, unrelated to the present situation.

The misinformation campaign was further spotlighted when Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif appeared on CNN. When pressed for evidence to support his claim that Pakistan had downed five Indian jets, Asif responded, “It’s all over social media.” The anchor promptly countered, “We didn’t invite you to talk about social media content,” highlighting the credibility gap in Pakistan’s narrative.

The developments indicate a broader effort by Pakistan to counter India‘s precision strikes with a barrage of misleading digital content, attempting to cloud public perception and divert attention from ground realities.
