Agency(New Delhi): Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar today called on the young officers of the Indian Revenue Service to foster economic nationalism, which he believes will significantly benefit the Indian economy and society. This call to action was made during his address at the 76th batch’s valedictory session at the National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT) in Nagpur.
The Vice President encouraged these officers to support local businesses actively. “You will be interacting closely with the business community. It’s crucial to cultivate a sense of nationalism among them,” he stated, outlining three key advantages: conserving foreign exchange by reducing unnecessary imports, creating job opportunities for Indian youth, and boosting entrepreneurship across the nation.
He applauded the advancements in India’s tax administration, including the implementation of the Faceless E-Assessment system, which ensures anonymity and aims to create a tax environment that respects honest taxpayers. According to the Vice President, a society that rewards honesty and discourages dishonesty enjoys stability, peace, harmony, and growth.
Shri Dhankhar criticized the informal cash transactions as harmful and praised technological solutions that promote transparency and accountability in financial dealings, reinforcing the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. He highlighted that corrupt practices now lead directly to legal consequences, rather than opportunities.
In the context of India’s economic growth, the Vice President challenged skeptics, urging them to recognize and embrace the nation’s new trajectory of hope and possibilities. “To those doubtful of India’s progress, step outside your comfort zone and witness the transformation,” he commented, suggesting that citizens should actively dismantle any pessimistic views.
The Vice President also emphasized the importance of the Indian Revenue Service in maintaining the integrity of India’s tax system. He tasked the newly graduated officers with empowering taxpayers through education, fostering trust with transparency, and maintaining the highest ethical standards in their duties.
Other notable attendees included Shri Ramesh Bais, Governor of Maharashtra; Shri Nitin Gupta, Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT); and several high-ranking officials in tax training and administration, underscoring the significance of the event.
