Agency(New Delhi): On Wednesday, it was announced that Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, a prominent spiritual teacher, underwent urgent brain surgery at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in New Delhi. The procedure, conducted on March 17th, aimed to eliminate a hemorrhage within his skull. Following the operation, Sadhguru was successfully removed from mechanical ventilation and has demonstrated consistent improvement, with notable enhancements in his neurological and physical conditions, along with stable vital signs.
At 66, Sadhguru is widely recognized for his foundational work with the Isha Foundation and has been at the forefront of environmental conservation efforts through initiatives like ‘Save Soil’ and ‘Rally for Rivers.’ Despite experiencing intense headaches over the past month, he maintained his regular activities, including leading the significant Maha Shivaratri event on March 8th.
The severity of his condition escalated around March 15th, prompting a consultation with Dr. Vinit Suri, a renowned neurologist at the hospital. Dr. Suri, suspecting a subdural hematoma, immediately recommended a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan. The MRI disclosed significant bleeding, revealing both chronic and recent hemorrhages, indicating the seriousness of Sadhguru’s condition.
Despite his deteriorating health and the urgent recommendation for hospitalization and treatment modification, Sadhguru fulfilled his scheduled commitments on March 15th and 16th with the aid of pain management medications. However, a notable decline in his consciousness and left leg weakness led to his admission to the hospital on March 17th. A computed tomography (CT) scan showed increased brain swelling, necessitating immediate surgery.
A dedicated team of medical experts, including Dr. Vinit Suri, Dr. Pranav Kumar, Dr. Sudheer Tyagi, and Dr. S Chatterjee, executed the emergency operation, focusing on alleviating the intracranial pressure caused by the bleeding. The successful intervention marks a crucial step in Sadhguru’s recovery path, underscoring the hospital’s commitment to providing exemplary care and the resilience of the spiritual leader.
