Agency (New Delhi): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday criticized AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal’s remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “retirement” and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s “removal,” calling them “absurd and unfortunate.”
During a public meeting in Rajajipuram, Singh responded to Kejriwal’s repeated claims that Modi will retire at 75 in 2025, as per BJP rules, and is seeking votes for Amit Shah as his successor. Kejriwal also asserted that the BJP would remove Adityanath as UP chief minister within two months if it won the general election.
Singh expressed astonishment, pointing out that Kejriwal, who is out on bail until June 1, is making baseless statements about the prime minister. “The entire country wants Modi ji to be prime minister in 2024 and 2029,” Singh declared.
Kejriwal’s interim bail, granted by the Supreme Court, lasts until June 1, after which he must return to jail. He was arrested on March 21.
Singh continued, criticizing Kejriwal’s comments about Adityanath, suggesting that Kejriwal believes only he will remain in power. Singh called it “very unfortunate” to make such statements about effective leadership and emphasized that meaningful politics requires truthfulness, not lies.
Additionally, Singh mocked Kejriwal’s claims of developing Delhi, urging people to observe the actual conditions there. He credited any development in Delhi primarily to Prime Minister Modi.
Earlier, Kejriwal stated in a press conference that Adityanath would be removed if the BJP won. He claimed Modi is planning to make Amit Shah the next prime minister and suggested that Adityanath would be ousted within two months to clear the way for Shah.
Addressing opposition concerns that BJP’s return would threaten democracy, Singh defended Modi, saying the real threat to democracy was during Indira Gandhi’s tenure. He highlighted that the Congress amended the Constitution 132 times, whereas Modi hasn’t made any changes in the past decade. Singh accused the opposition of fabricating issues due to a lack of substantial grievances.
