Agency(Rajasthan): In a distressing incident from Rajasthan’s Kotputli-Behror district, a 25-year-old woman, previously a victim of rape, was grievously wounded after being shot and assaulted with a sharp weapon. The assailants were the man accused of her rape, Rajendra Yadav, and his two associates, Mahipal Gujral and Rahul Gujral. The woman’s brother also suffered injuries in this brutal attack. They are currently receiving medical care at Sawai Man Singh Hospital, as reported by the police.
The main assailant, Rajendra Yadav, was apprehended on Monday following a train accident in Jaipur which resulted in the amputation of his leg. According to DGP U R Sahoo, Yadav, after being released on bail, had been menacing the woman to retract her accusation against him. His capture came after a dramatic chase where he tried to disguise his appearance by altering his hair and beard. Despite his efforts, he was recognized and hospitalized due to his injuries.
The incident occurred on Saturday night when the victim and her brother were returning home on a two-wheeler. They were ambushed near Pragpura police station by Yadav and his accomplices, who had been following them. Yadav shot the woman in the back, while the other two assailants attacked them with a sharp-edged weapon, causing multiple injuries to the woman’s head, legs, hands, and shoulders.
Following this attack, an FIR was filed based on a complaint by the woman’s family. The FIR details that Yadav had raped the woman on January 16 of the previous year and was arrested and dismissed from his job. The FIR also mentions that Yadav had recently been released on bail and had started threatening the woman to withdraw the case against him.
Mahipal and Rahul were arrested on Sunday. The charges against the accused include attempt to murder, causing hurt, and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code, along with provisions of the Arms Act.
The state’s Health Minister, Gajendra Singh Khinvsar, and Sports Minister, Rajyavardhan Rathore, visited the hospital to check on the woman’s condition. Khinvsar mentioned the possibility of transferring the woman to AIIMS in New Delhi for advanced treatment, depending on the recommendations of a six-member medical board. He condemned the attack as a heinous crime and assured that the matter would be reported to the Chief Minister.
Rathore emphasized the state government’s commitment to women’s safety, stating that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators, regardless of their status or position.
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also visited the hospital, expressing concern over the victim’s safety and calling for a swift investigation and justice. The state unit of Congress has formed a four-member committee to investigate the incident and report to the PCC President Govind Singh Dotasra.
