Agency(New Delhi): Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has publicly denounced the Janata Dal (Secular) and specifically leader Prajwal Revanna for alleged crimes that she claims have devastated the lives of numerous women. During her outcry, she notably questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s lack of response on the issue.
In a statement released on social media platform X, Priyanka Gandhi expressed her dismay: “The leader whom PM Modi supports and campaigns for is now a fugitive accused of heinous acts that have shattered many lives. How can Modi remain silent on this?” Her criticism follows the recent booking of Revanna in a sexual harassment case, initiated by his former house help, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The allegations involve inappropriate and violent behavior that supposedly occurred when Revanna’s wife was not present. This has prompted the Karnataka government to form a Special Investigation Team to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi commented on the controversy, emphasizing that legal actions should be taken against anyone found guilty of such offenses, irrespective of their political affiliations.
Amidst these developments, internal pressures within the Janata Dal (Secular) are rising, with MLA Sharana Gowda Kandakur calling for Revanna’s expulsion to prevent further damage to the party’s reputation. Samruddhi Manjunath, another JD(S) MLA, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the embarrassment faced by party members due to the ongoing scandal.
As the situation unfolds, former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy asserted that any party member involved in illegal activities should be punished as per legal standards, reflecting a crisis of leadership and ethics within the party as they navigate these accusations.
