Agency (New Delhi): The Congress party has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take immediate action to repatriate Karnataka’s JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna, who left the country amid sexual abuse accusations.
Speaking to the press, Alka Lamba, the president of the Congress’ women wing, announced plans to protest during Modi’s rally and roadshow in Mumbai on May 15 and 17. “We demand that Prajwal Revanna be brought back and handed over to the Karnataka government. The silence from the PM and BJP leaders is tantamount to supporting the accused,” Lamba asserted.
Lamba emphasized that the government must engage with German authorities to facilitate Revanna’s return. Following the abuse allegations, Revanna had absconded to Germany. “We will display black flags and surround you, Modi, even if it leads to our arrest,” Lamba warned, indicating that the Congress party is organizing a substantial demonstration during Modi’s Mumbai visit.
There have been three FIRs filed against Revanna in Hassan, Mysuru, and Bengaluru. These cases also implicate his father, H D Revanna, who was the NDA’s candidate for the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency. In response to a complaint lodged by Nagalakshmi Chowdhary, chairperson of the State Commission for Women, the Karnataka government has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to thoroughly investigate the allegations.
In light of these accusations, the JD(S) leadership has suspended Prajwal Revanna from the party.
