Agency (New Delhi): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted the importance of regular fire and electrical safety audits in hospitals and public places as he assessed the heatwave situation across the nation. The reviews come in light of recent fire incidents that have resulted in significant loss of life.
During a series of meetings, PM Modi also examined the aftermath of Cyclone Remal, especially in the northeast region, and reviewed the 100-day agenda for the new government set to be sworn in following the Lok Sabha results on June 4. Exit polls predict a significant victory for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), positioning Modi for a third consecutive term.
In his review of the heatwave conditions, Modi instructed officials to conduct regular drills for fire prevention and management. He emphasized the necessity of maintaining fire lines in forests and utilizing biomass effectively. Forecasts indicate that the heatwave will persist in parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh, while the monsoon is expected to be normal or above normal in most regions but below normal in parts of peninsular India.
Addressing the post-Cyclone Remal situation, Modi was briefed on its impacts, including the loss of lives and property damage in Mizoram, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura due to landslides and floods. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been actively involved in evacuation, airlifting, and road clearance operations. The Union home ministry remains in regular contact with the state governments, and Modi assured continued support from the Union government to the affected states.
Top bureaucrats participated in these meetings, with Modi also leading discussions on preparations for World Environment Day on June 5. Prior to the Lok Sabha elections, Modi had initiated the process for various ministries to draft a 100-day agenda for the upcoming government. He urged his Council of Ministers to prioritize key programs and initiatives for this period.
