Agency (New Delhi): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed concern over a Pakistani politician’s endorsement of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal amidst the ongoing general elections, calling it a “serious matter of investigation.”
In an interview with news agency IANS, Modi commented, “I don’t think I should comment on such topics from the position I am in, but I can understand your concern.” His remarks came after former Pakistan minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain praised Rahul Gandhi and Kejriwal while criticizing the BJP government.
Earlier this month, Chaudhry—known for boasting about Pakistan’s involvement in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack—posted excerpts from a speech by Rahul Gandhi on X, captioned “Rahul on fire.” This post drew sharp criticism from BJP leaders. Additionally, Chaudhry endorsed a tweet by Kejriwal advocating for peace and harmony, which further fueled the BJP’s ire, suggesting that Kejriwal has significant support from Pakistan.
In his interview, Modi took a jab at the opposition leaders, questioning why only a few Indian politicians receive support from those hostile to India. He stated, “I don’t know why only a few people are liked by those who have enmity with us, why there are only a few people in whose support voices are raised from there.”
Modi emphasized that India’s democracy is mature and that Indian voters will not be swayed by external influences. However, he acknowledged that the situation is concerning.
During a recent election rally, Modi reiterated the issue, claiming that Pakistan is eager to see Rahul Gandhi become the next prime minister of India.
