Agency(Bangalore): In a recent development related to the explosion at The Rameshwaram Café in Bengaluru, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken into custody an individual from Ballari, indicating a significant breakthrough in the investigation. This apprehension, occurring on Wednesday, sheds light on the meticulous efforts by authorities to unravel the threads of this distressing event.
Reports circulating online suggest the individual arrested might have played a role in assisting the perpetrator responsible for deploying the explosive device within the café premises. Despite these claims circulating in the digital sphere, the authenticity of such assertions remains unverified. The individual in question was apprehended in the locality of Bruce Pet, nestled within Ballari town.
This detention follows the interrogation of four individuals currently incarcerated, suspected of terrorism-related activities, by the NIA. Among those questioned was a resident of Cowl Bazaar, a neighborhood within Ballari situated a mere three kilometers from Bruce Pet, hinting at a possible local network involved in the incident.
The interrogation encompassed Minhaj, also known as Mohammed Sulaiman, a 26-year-old merchant dealing in textiles from Ballari; Syed Sameer, a 19-year-old resident of Ballari; Anas Iqbal Sheikh, aged 23, from Mumbai; and Shayan Rahman, or Hussain, 26, from Delhi. This step was undertaken following authorization from the judiciary.
These individuals, along with five others, found themselves under arrest by the NIA on December 18, 2023, under the suspicion of concocting plans for executing acts of terrorism, with a particular emphasis on deploying improvised explosive devices (IEDs). This group, purportedly forming the Ballari module, allegedly harbored intentions to fabricate IEDs utilizing raw explosive materials, with Sulaiman purportedly at the helm as the orchestrator.
The calamitous event that unfolded on March 1 at The Rameshwaram Café, located in the Brookefield area of east Bengaluru, resulted in injuries to 10 individuals. The scene of the crime was marked by the discovery of components typically associated with homemade explosives, including a 9v battery, a timing mechanism, and an assortment of metal fasteners, underscoring the sinister nature of the act.
