Agency(New Delhi): Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, on March 13, 2024, sanctioned a major expansion of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), incorporating three lakh new cadet vacancies. This initiative aims to accommodate the surging demand for NCC participation from educational institutions nationwide, signifying a notable increase from the original 20,000 cadets in 1948 to a monumental sanctioned strength of 20 lakh cadets. The NCC’s expansion positions it as the world’s largest uniformed youth organization.
Aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, which introduces NCC as an elective course, this expansion is intended to fulfill the youth’s ambitions of becoming instrumental leaders of the future. This strategic move ensures a balanced distribution of vacancies across all States and Union Territories, effectively addressing the backlog of institutions eager to integrate NCC programs.
The expansion blueprint also outlines the establishment of four new Group Headquarters and the introduction of two additional NCC units, aiming for a wider reach and impact. A notable aspect of this plan is the employment of ex-servicemen as NCC instructors, capitalizing on their expertise and experience. This approach not only promises high-caliber training for cadets but also opens new avenues for veterans, bridging valuable military experience with youth education and discipline.
This expansion is more than just numerical growth; it signifies a commitment to molding disciplined, leadership-driven, and service-oriented future leaders. The NCC’s goal is to instill a transformative effect, nurturing an environment conducive to meaningful contributions towards nation-building. By broadening the foundation of motivated and patriotic youth of the ‘Amrit Peedhi’, this initiative plays a critical role in realizing the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’, a developed India with strong, capable future leaders at its helm.
