Agency (Bengaluru): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled an ambitious roadmap for women’s empowerment in its election manifesto, titled “Modi ki Guarantee for Nari Shakti.” Central to this vision is the goal of transforming three crore rural women into successful entrepreneurs, or “Lakhpati Didis,” building upon the success of empowering one crore women in a similar manner.
To achieve this, the party plans to integrate women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) into key service sectors like IT, healthcare, education, retail, and tourism, equipping them with the necessary skills and tools to increase their income. Additionally, the manifesto pledges to enhance market access for products made by women SHGs by connecting them with initiatives such as One District One Product (ODOP), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Ekta Mall, ONDC, and GEM.
Recognizing the importance of women’s participation in the workforce, the BJP promises to develop infrastructure like working women’s hostels and creches, particularly near industrial and commercial hubs, to facilitate increased participation of women in the workforce.
The manifesto also aims to encourage greater participation of women in sports by launching dedicated programs and facilities for women sportspersons. To ensure women’s health and well-being, the party pledges to expand existing health services focused on preventing and reducing anemia, breast cancer, cervical cancer, and osteoporosis, as well as launching a targeted initiative to eliminate cervical cancer.
In a historic move, the BJP has enacted the long-awaited Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, providing for representation of women in Parliament and State Legislatures, which will be systematically implemented.
Other key initiatives include expanding the network of Shakti Desks in police stations for timely investigation and resolution of women’s issues, strengthening the Emergency Helpline 112, and continuing the construction and maintenance of public toilets to uphold women’s dignity under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
