Agency(Mangaluru): In an effort to maintain law and order during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Mangaluru’s Police Commissioner, Anupam Agrawal, has taken decisive action by issuing externment orders for 19 individuals with criminal histories within the jurisdiction of the Mangaluru Police Commissionerate. This move follows the recent externment of seven other individuals, underscoring the police’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
These 19 individuals, known as ‘rowdy sheeters’ for their criminal records, have been relocated to various districts as part of a strategy to prevent any disruption of peace during the elections. The police commissioner highlighted the importance of this measure, stating that close monitoring of their activities will continue to safeguard the electoral environment.
In addition to these externments, the police have also taken preventive measures against 367 habitual offenders by imposing security bonds. These bonds are designed to deter these individuals from engaging in activities that could disturb the public order in the lead-up to the elections.
Among those externed are individuals with extensive criminal records, including charges of attempted murder, assault on government officials, illegal possession of arms, drug trafficking, and involvement in dacoity. The list features Athur Nasib from Moodbidri, Srinivas H from Katipalla, Mahamad Safwan from Bajpe, and Jayesh alias Sachu from Bondel, among others. Their criminal activities span across multiple police stations in Mangaluru City and the Dakshina Kannada district, reflecting a broad range of unlawful behaviors.
Commissioner Agrawal’s initiative reflects a comprehensive approach to pre-emptively address potential threats to peace and security during a critical period of democratic engagement. By taking these individuals out of the equation, the Mangaluru Police aim to facilitate a smooth and orderly election process, free from the influence of those with a history of disrupting social harmony.
