Agency (Madhya Pradesh): A 35-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh diligently learned printing techniques while serving time in jail, only to utilize them for counterfeiting currency after his release, an official revealed on Sunday.
Bhupendra Singh Dhakat’s regression to criminal activities surfaced after his arrest by the police, who seized 95 fake notes, each with a face value of Rs 200, from him.
Alongside the counterfeit notes, authorities found a color printer, six ink bottles, and paper typically used for producing fake currency at Dhakat’s residence, said Sironj Sub Divisional Officer of Police Umesh Tiwari.
Dhakat admitted to manufacturing and circulating the bogus notes in the district over the past few months.
Tiwari disclosed that Dhakat has a criminal record with involvement in 11 cases, including murder, and a history of incarceration.
During his previous prison term, Dhakat acquired printing skills through a vocational training program aimed at assisting inmates in reintegrating into society upon release.
However, instead of pursuing legitimate means, Dhakat resorted to unlawful activities to make a quick profit. Despite being banned from several districts, Dhakat managed to remain in the area and continue producing fake currency, a police source revealed. According to Vidisha Jail superintendent Priyadarshan Shrivastava, inmates are provided with offset printing and screen printing training to support their livelihoods post-release.
