Agency (West Bengal): West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee alleged on Wednesday that the BJP is paying money to people to buy votes. Speaking at an election rally in Arambagh in support of TMC candidate Mitali Bagh, Banerjee accused the saffron party of distributing money in amounts of Rs 5,000, Rs 10,000, and Rs 15,000 to secure votes.
Banerjee claimed that many current BJP leaders are former CPI(M) ‘harmads’ (anti-social elements). She warned, “If you don’t want a reign of terror to usher in, then refrain from voting for the BJP.”
She emphasized that the upcoming election is crucial for changing the power dynamics in Delhi. “This power equation in Delhi has to be altered and change has to be brought in,” she asserted.
The TMC leader accused the BJP of routinely defaming the people of Bengal. She cited an example, saying, “See how they have dishonored the women of Sandeshkhali by paying money to make false rape allegations.”
Banerjee also claimed that the BJP had deprived 26,000 teachers of their jobs in West Bengal. However, she expressed relief following a recent Supreme Court verdict that temporarily safeguarded these jobs. “But truth has prevailed. After the Supreme Court verdict yesterday, I felt really content with the jobs being saved for the time being,” she said.
Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Banerjee accused him of lying constantly. She warned that if the BJP comes to power again, minorities, Adivasis, and OBCs would face an existential crisis under the CAA and NRC.
Banerjee countered Modi’s claims that TMC misappropriated funds meant for the 100-day work scheme. She asserted, “Rather Rs 24 crore had been saved by the state government under 100 days work.”
She concluded with a stark warning, “If Modi wins this time, everything will be lost. Also, there will be no elections in future.”
These allegations and warnings highlight the intense political battle in West Bengal, with Banerjee urging voters to reject the BJP’s tactics and preserve the state’s integrity.
