Agency(New Delhi): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently embroiled in a legal battle over the alleged excise policy scam, has approached a city court with a plea for additional consultation time with his lawyer. The AAP leader, facing multiple legal challenges across various states, has expressed that the court-sanctioned two meetings per week with his legal counsel are inadequate for comprehensive case preparation.
Kejriwal, who has experienced significant weight loss since his detention, has requested the court to increase the number of meetings to five per week. This plea is scheduled for review by Special Judge for ED cases, Kaveri Baweja, on Friday.
The Delhi Chief Minister was remanded to judicial custody until April 15 by the court on April 1, following allegations by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of his involvement in the excise policy scandal. The ED claims Kejriwal played a central role in the formulation and execution of the policy, aimed at benefiting certain entities in exchange for kickbacks. These alleged illicit gains were purportedly used to finance the AAP’s campaign in the Goa Assembly elections.
Kejriwal’s request underscores the complexities and the breadth of the legal challenges he faces, highlighting the need for more intensive legal strategizing and preparation amidst the ongoing judicial proceedings.
