Agency (New Delhi): During a charged campaign in New Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal reinforced his dedication to the country’s constitutional integrity over his personal liberties. Addressing supporters in Jahangirpuri, Kejriwal, who recently faced legal challenges including an arrest related to the Delhi liquor policy case, emphasized the critical need to safeguard the Constitution against what he described as emerging dictatorial trends.
The AAP, in alliance with Congress, is contesting several seats in Delhi, aiming to dethrone the current government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Kejriwal openly declared Modi’s predicted defeat in the upcoming polls on June 4, expressing confidence that the BJP’s influence is waning across key states like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
Kejriwal’s campaign message focused heavily on the choice facing voters, framing the election as a pivotal moment for democracy. He reiterated that the INDIA bloc’s potential victory would symbolize a commitment to national progress and the cessation of authoritarian governance. During his speeches, Kejriwal utilized his personal experiences with incarceration to highlight the stakes involved, suggesting that a vote for BJP might result in his return to jail, whereas supporting the INDIA bloc could ensure his continued freedom to serve.
In his roadshows supporting candidates like JP Agarwal and Udit Raj, Kejriwal accused the BJP of aspiring to a parliamentary supermajority to implement agendas harmful to democratic foundations, such as potentially ending reservation policies. He reminded voters of the importance of stepping out to vote despite challenges, invoking the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the virtues of the Indian Constitution.
Kejriwal concluded his speeches by rallying the crowd with slogans that encouraged rejection of the BJP in favor of love and support for his leadership and the broader goals of the INDIA bloc, underlining the choice between his potential imprisonment and the safeguarding of constitutional governance.
