Agency (New Delhi): Amidst the heated electoral environment, the official X handle of the Jharkhand Congress was withheld on Wednesday in response to a legal demand linked to the circulation of a doctored video involving Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The Delhi Police have initiated an investigation into this matter, with Jharkhand Congress chief Rajesh Thakur being summoned to appear before them.
This action follows a complaint by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), which led to the registration of an FIR concerning the manipulated video. The video, which has been claimed to feature a ‘deepfake’ image of Amit Shah, has stirred significant controversy, prompting legal and political responses.
Rajesh Thakur, who has confirmed receipt of the police notice, expressed confusion and concern over the timing and nature of the summons, particularly during a critical phase of the election campaign. Thakur criticized the police’s approach, suggesting that they should have first verified the content associated with his X account before issuing a summons for his electronic devices.
Additionally, the Jharkhand BJP has lodged a separate police complaint against two individuals accused of being involved in the video’s distribution. This incident highlights the growing complexities and sensitivities surrounding digital content and political campaigning, as political tensions escalate.
