Agency(Karnataka): The Janata Dal (Secular) is navigating through a critical phase as its party president, H.D. Kumaraswamy, recuperates from recent heart surgery. This development has momentarily slowed down the party’s momentum in the run-up to the elections, revealing a significant gap in leadership with a pan-Karnataka appeal.
Despite assurances that Kumaraswamy will return to Bengaluru from Chennai on March 25, his active involvement in the campaign trail is contingent upon medical advice, potentially delaying his re-entry into the electoral fray. This pause in Kumaraswamy’s campaign activities comes at a time when the JD(S) is striving to consolidate its presence, especially in its strongholds like the old Mysuru region and Hassan, ahead of the forthcoming polls.
The JD(S) is exploring alternatives to fill the void in Kumaraswamy’s absence, including mobilizing other prominent figures within the party such as former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and youth leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy. Despite these challenges, party officials remain optimistic about regaining their campaign momentum, emphasizing Kumaraswamy’s expected return to the political scene shortly.
