Agency (Karnataka): The Janata Dal (Secular) core committee has taken the severe measure of suspending Prajwal Revanna from the Hassan Lok Sabha seat candidacy due to sexual harassment allegations. Alongside the suspension, a showcause notice was issued to him.
This decision was announced after the party’s core committee meeting on Tuesday. Prajwal Revanna is notably connected to prominent political figures, being the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Devegowda and the nephew of former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.
G.T. Devegowda, president of the core committee, stated, “We welcome SIT against Prajwal Revanna. We’ve decided to recommend to our party’s national president that he be suspended from the party until the SIT investigation is completed.”
The allegations gained traction after a pen drive allegedly containing over 2000 videos of Revanna abusing women was revealed, coinciding with the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka. This scandal has also ensnared his uncle, H.D. Revanna, who faces charges of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation.
Former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy expressed his dismay to reporters, emphasizing the seriousness of the accusations and his refusal to shield his nephew. He underscored the government’s responsibility to bring the truth to light.
Further complicating matters, Prajwal Revanna reportedly left for Frankfurt the day after the polls. The Karnataka government has since established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to thoroughly investigate the allegations.
