Agency (New Delhi): Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has questioned the government regarding its inaction in canceling the diplomatic passport of Prajwal Revanna, a suspended JD(S) MP accused of sexual abuse. The 33-year-old MP from Hassan reportedly left for Germany soon after the Karnataka State Commission for Women chairperson, Nagalakshmi Chowdhary, urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to investigate the allegations against him, following the circulation of explicit videos and pictures on social media.
Ramesh took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to express his concerns. “What is stopping the PM from having the diplomatic passport to Prajwal Revanna cancelled? How and why was he allowed to flee the country like Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi, and Mehul Choksi were?” he asked, drawing parallels with other high-profile cases where individuals accused of serious crimes fled India.
Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of Janata Dal (Secular) patriarch and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, faces accusations of sexual assault after several videos allegedly featuring him with multiple women surfaced. He was the NDA candidate from the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, which went to polls on April 26, following the JD(S) alliance with the BJP in 2023.
On Friday, another rape case was registered against Prajwal, bringing the total number of sexual abuse cases against him to three, according to police sources. The latest FIR, filed on May 8 in Bengaluru, pertains to the alleged sexual abuse of several women, with explicit videos showing Prajwal allegedly committing the acts.
The first FIR involves the alleged molestation of Prajwal’s cook in Holenarasipura, Hassan, with his father and Holenarasipura MLA H D Revanna also named as an accused. The second case involves the alleged rape of a JD(S) worker at gunpoint.
H D Revanna is currently in judicial custody at the Central Jail in Parappara Agrahara, Bengaluru, after a 20-year-old youth accused him and his aide of kidnapping his mother. The youth claimed his mother appeared in one of the explicit videos, where she was allegedly tied and raped by Prajwal.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated on May 2 that Prajwal traveled to Germany on a diplomatic passport without seeking political clearance for the trip. Additionally, an Interpol Blue Corner notice has been issued against Prajwal, seeking information on his whereabouts.
