Agency(Bengaluru): The electoral contest for the Bengaluru Rural parliamentary constituency in Karnataka has escalated into a high-profile rivalry, spotlighting the political ambitions of the Gowda family and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s family. Dr. CN Manjunath, son-in-law of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, represents the BJP, while DK Suresh, Shivakumar’s younger brother and the incumbent MP, is contesting for the Congress.
The campaign trail has witnessed fervent activities, including a roadshow by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in support of the BJP candidate, sparking a war of words and competitive spirit between the contenders. Despite the external show of strength, both candidates have maintained a veneer of civility, with Suresh extending wishes to Manjunath during their encounter at the nomination submission venue.
The political temperature in the constituency has risen with allegations of intimidation tactics leveled by BJP MLA Munirathna against the Shivakumar brothers, signifying a tense atmosphere. JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy has also expressed his determination to challenge the Shivakumar family’s influence in the region, further heating up the contest.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Dr. CN Ashwathnarayan underscored the significance of the Bengaluru Rural seat, linking support for Manjunath to backing Prime Minister Modi and emphasizing the candidate’s broad appeal across community lines.
