Agency(Uttarakhand): In a significant development, the Uttarakhand Police have successfully apprehended Abdul Moid, identified as the offspring of Abdul Malik, who is implicated as the orchestrator behind the turmoil in Haldwani. This latest apprehension elevates the tally of detainees to 84, in response to the chaotic events of February 8 that included instances of stone-throwing and incendiary acts in the Banbhoolpura locale. The catalyst for this unrest was the contentious demolition of a madrassa deemed unauthorized, owned by Malik, after which a curfew was mandated, subsequently lifted after a phased 12-day relaxation.
The apprehension of Malik, the father, occurred on February 24, following the violence in Banbhoolpura that resulted in six fatalities and injuries to more than 100 individuals, encompassing law enforcement officers and media representatives. In the aftermath, authorities initiated a lookout for the father-son duo, leading to a substantial search operation and the attachment of their properties within the area.
The Malik family resisted the municipal decision, with Safia Malik, Abdul’s spouse, seeking legal recourse against the demolition notice issued by the Municipal Corporation. Nevertheless, the judicial system withheld immediate relief, and the demolition proceeded as planned, igniting further unrest in the predominantly Muslim Banbhoolpura.
Subsequent to the initial three FIRs, law enforcement filed a new case implicating six individuals, including Malik and his wife, on charges of criminal conspiracy and the illicit use of a deceased individual’s identity for unauthorized land transactions, as disclosed by the police.
Careful examination of the incident reveals a complex narrative of legal confrontation, property disputes, and community unrest, leading to significant law enforcement actions in the quest for stability and justice in the region.
