Agency (NAINITAL, Uttarakhand)-A severe forest fire in Uttarakhand has escalated, reaching the High Court Colony in Nainital, prompting the intervention of army personnel to aid in controlling the blaze. The fire, which originated near the district headquarters, has disrupted traffic and poses a significant threat to local residences and critical areas, including nearby Indian Army facilities.
Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, has instructed officials to stay vigilant and coordinate across departments to mitigate the fire’s impact. This directive follows reports of 31 new forest fire incidents within the last 24 hours across the state, affecting over 33 hectares of forest land.
The local administration has taken preventive measures, including a temporary ban on boating in Naini Lake to prioritize emergency response efforts. The district’s response team includes 40 personnel from the Manora Range and two forest rangers dedicated to extinguishing the fire.
Rudraprayag’s Divisional Forest Officer, Abhimanyu, reported the arrest of three individuals linked to starting fires in Jakholi and Rudraprayag, one of whom confessed to setting fires to promote new grass growth for grazing.
The situation remains critical, with ongoing efforts to fully contain the fire and prevent further damage to the High Court Colony and surrounding areas.
