Agency (New Delhi): An FIR has been filed against BJP President J.P. Nadda, IT cell head Amit Malviya, and Karnataka unit chief B.Y. Vijayendra, accusing them of intimidating Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities through a social media post. The post allegedly sought to deter them from voting for a specific candidate. Police confirmed the registration of the case on May 6 following a complaint by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).
The KPCC had submitted a complaint to the Election Commission and the police on Sunday, citing violations of the model code of conduct. According to a senior police official, the case was registered under the sections of the Representation of People Act and Section 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with statements that promote hostility among different communities.
The complaint refers to a video uploaded on the social media platform ‘X’ by the official Karnataka BJP account. It alleges that the account is managed by Malviya under instructions from Nadda, Vijayendra, and Karnataka BJP’s social media in-charge. The video, posted on May 4, features animated depictions of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. It portrays SC, ST, and OBC communities as “eggs” in a nest, while Rahul Gandhi is shown planting a large egg labeled “Muslim community.” According to the complaint, the video implies that resources are being directed to the Muslim community while excluding the SC, ST, and OBC groups.
The complaint further states that the video provokes hostility, disrupts social harmony, and seeks to dissuade members of the SC/ST community from supporting certain candidates. This behavior has been deemed prejudicial and aims to promote animosity.
