The tragedy occurred in Sector 37, where Shyam Goyal’s son had allegedly taken loans amounting to about Rs 40 crore from various people and banks. The family had been facing severe threats from miscreants and recovery agents demanding repayment.
On Thursday night, some miscreants reportedly came to their house, kidnapped the guard, and later fled after releasing him. Fearing for their lives, Shyam Goyal, aged 70, along with his entire family, took sleeping pills and cut the veins in their hands, said the police. Neighbors, alerted by their screams, rushed to the house and called the police.
The family members were rushed to a private hospital in Sector 21. Shyam Goyal succumbed to his injuries, while his wife Sadhna (65), son Anirudh Goyal (45), daughter-in-law Nidhi Goyal (40), and grandsons Himang (18) and Dhananjay (14) remain in critical condition.

In his complaint, Anirudh mentioned receiving threatening calls from Mumbai, Delhi, Dubai, and Ahmedabad, with threats to kill the entire family and an attempted murder and kidnapping of their guard.
Following Anirudh’s complaint, an FIR was registered against 15 accused, including individuals from Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, and Dubai, under relevant sections of the IPC, including kidnapping and abetment to suicide.
