Agency( Bengaluru): In a significant revelation, former Bengaluru corporator NR Ramesh has accused several revenue officials from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) RR Nagar subdivision of generating 808 counterfeit khata certificates, leading to a substantial financial detriment estimated at Rs 20 crore to the municipal corporation. The accusation, aimed at the BBMP’s internal staff including the assistant revenue officer, revenue inspector, and clerks, brings to light an alleged corruption scheme that facilitated this malpractice.
Typically, the BBMP mandates the issuance of ‘A’ khata certificates exclusively to property owners who have remitted betterment charges to the municipal entity. These certificates are crucial for property owners, serving as a formal recognition of their property’s legal status and eligibility for obtaining building licenses, trade licenses, and loan facilities from banks. The issuance of fake certificates, as alleged by Ramesh, indicates a severe breach of trust and procedural integrity, potentially involving influential figures orchestrating the scam.
The complaint lodged by the BJP leader with BBMP Chief Tushar Girinath not only underscores the scale of the malfeasance but also casts a shadow over the civic body’s operational transparency and accountability. This incident has prompted calls for a thorough investigation into the matter to identify and penalize those responsible for the infringement.
Such acts of impropriety not only cause financial losses to the municipal coffers but also undermine public confidence in the civic administration’s ability to manage and regulate property records and related financial transactions.
