Agency(Karnataka): In Shivamogga, a significant political development unfolds as K S Eshwarappa, a prominent BJP figure and ex-Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, takes a bold step by entering the Lok Sabha election arena as an independent candidate. Eshwarappa has voiced concerns over the alarming situation where his supporters are allegedly being targeted with death threats.
During a gathering at the ‘Shubha Mangala’ convention with grassroots workers in Shivamogga, Eshwarappa shared his worries. “My supporters have assured me of their unwavering support in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, although they might hesitate to do so publicly,” he expressed, applauding the courage of those who attended the meeting in light of the threats.
Interestingly, Eshwarappa revealed that not only his usual base but also individuals traditionally backing the Congress have pledged their support for him. This cross-party support highlights his influence and the complexity of the political landscape in Shivamogga.
Reflecting on his party’s journey, Eshwarappa pointed out the BJP’s fluctuating fortunes in Karnataka, from securing 108 assembly seats to a reduced count of 66. He absolved the party workers from blame for the current state of affairs and critiqued the decision-making at the higher echelons of the party, including his and his son’s sidelining from electoral contests.
In a candid moment, Eshwarappa criticized the political maneuvering within his party, particularly targeting former Chief Minister Yediyurappa. He accused Yediyurappa of attempting to secure a cabinet position for his son, B Y Vijayendra, as a condition for Eshwarappa’s reinduction, a move that was questioned due to Vijayendra’s lack of an MLA status.
