Agency (New Delhi): Firing a daring salvo, Priyank Kharge, the Congress scion and son of party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, launched a blistering counterattack after the BJP’s Karnataka social media wing branded him a “dynast”. Kharge audaciously urged the saffron party to muster the courage and apply the same dynastic label to their own leaders who hail from entrenched political families.
Taking to ‘X’, the social media platform previously known as Twitter, Kharge issued an open challenge: “Dear @BJP4Karnataka, If you have the courage, use and say the word DYNAST to @BSYBJP @BYRBJP @BYVijayendra @BSBommai @ikseshwarappa @Tejasvi_Surya @JagadishShettar @ShashikalaJolle @UmeshJadhav_BJP @BelladArvind among others in Karnataka. (The list is longer across India).” His post fearlessly tagged numerous prominent BJP figures in the state with well-established political lineages.
Not stopping there, Kharge doubled down, offering a provocative proposition to settle the “dynasty politics” debate once and for all. “Once again, I offer @BJP4India and @BJP4Karnataka leaders a free DNA test at my expense, if you people are unsure of your origins. Don’t hesitate, let us rest this argument of ‘dynasty politics’ once for all. It reflects extremely poorly on your BJP IT cell when they say we are dynasts and legitimate and the rest of you are not dynasts and are still legitimate or aren’t you legitimate?” he challenged.
The BJP’s initial salvo came after Kharge criticized the Election Commission for scheduling the upcoming Lok Sabha elections across seven phases. He accused the poll body of enabling Prime Minister Narendra Modi to “extract maximum mileage” and propagate the BJP’s narrative more effectively nationwide by allowing the party’s “star campaigner” to travel extensively.
Kharge’s sharp retort not only deflected the dynastic allegations back at the BJP but also audaciously dared them to apply the same standards to their own ranks, setting the stage for a heated political confrontation over the contentious issue of dynasty in Indian politics.
